Ethos & Mission Statement

We aim

‘TO MAKE A POSITIVE DIFFERENCE’

A BETTER WORLD THROUGH THE CHRISTIAN TRANSFORMATION OF PEOPLE AND COMMUNITIES.

HOW?

By nurturing the God-given dignity, individuality and potential of young people in this school
We do this by focusing upon…

BEING PROUD

Be proud of our human dignity (Genesis 1 v 27)

JOINING IN

Join in (Matthew 25 v 14-30; 1 Corinthians 12 v 7)

GROWING IN FAITH

Grow in faith (2 Peter 3 v 18)

TREATING OTHERS WELL

Treat others well (Luke 6 v 31)

WORKING HARD

Work hard (Proverbs 16 v 3)

Becoming people who understand and embrace the distinctive Catholic identity, Edmund Rice charism and mission of this Cathedral School, and carry that tradition forward into the future.

Becoming people who actively participate in and contribute to opportunities they are presented with to do something positive and worthwhile.

Becoming people who have thankfulness, reflectiveness, a willingness to self-examine and a strong set of values to live by deeply embedded in their lives. Christians see these things as responses to the love God has shown to us in his Son, Jesus.

Becoming people who show a deep respect for their own personal dignity and that of others, in attitude, word and action (in person and online).

Becoming people who accept responsibility for learning, understanding, evaluating and skillfully deploying insight into all that is good, beautiful and true; always demonstrating consistently high levels of effort.

As a Christian community, St Edward's College aims to:

  • promote an atmosphere in which all members of the community feel comfortable, are free to develop their own interests and can appreciate the values of kindness, honesty and service to others
  • affirm, nurture and seek to develop the faith and spiritual growth of its members and to encourage individuals to participate in the life of the Church
  • provide a broad and challenging education and a stimulating environment in which individuals are encouraged to fulfil their own potential, value the talents of others and live life to the full
  • assist individuals to recognise how Catholic faith and teaching can be applied to their lives, thereby helping them to recognise the dignity and uniqueness of each person
  • promote an active partnership between school and home
  • seek to be a vital and integral part of the local and wider communities
