Chaplaincy

The chaplaincy team at St Edward's College is a core part of our support for pupils and lies at the heart of what it means to be a Catholic community. A beautiful chapel, formerly that of the Christian Brothers’ religious house, is kept as a place of daily prayer, open to all pupils throughout the day as a place of silence and reflection. The Blessed Sacrament is reserved in Chapel, so members of the school can seek the direct presence of the Lord.

A team of staff and students comprise the chaplaincy team; there are two priests who together provide sacramental ministry, especially in the offering of Holy Mass and opportunities for confessions, along with several lay staff and students, including the Liturgical Co-ordinator who looks after the daily life of the Chapel and oversees year group Mass arrangements, the School Counsellor who offers counsel to pupils in difficulty or distress, the RE teaching team along with various other staff who help take a lead collective worship.

Morning Prayer is offered in Chapel every morning; there are also regular opportunities for other devotions such as the Rosary or Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Student leadership also forms part of the chaplaincy, with the Senior Sacristan and chapel prefects working alongside groups of altar servers, a Faith in Action team and Edmund Rice Advocacy group. Through the chaplaincy therefore, pupils and staff are provided with every opportunity to practice and develop their faith.
