Sport

Physical Education is of value to all pupils as a means of personal development.

Alongside its academic tradition, the College boasts a long history of sporting achievement. Pupils and students take part in competitions on a weekly basis, in fixtures against schools throughout the North West and in regional and national contests in many of the sports offered at the College.

The excellent facilities, including a new astro-turf enable pupils to enjoy a range of activities. These include the principle winter sports of hockey, netball, rugby union, cross-country, swimming and the principle summer sports of athletics, cricket, rounders and tennis. Whilst continuing to achieve city, regional and county success in our traditional sports, pupils have had the opportunity to represent the College in a number of new sports in recent years including water polo, indoor athletics, girls rugby, boys handball, boys basketball and a Sixth Form boys football team. Again, success in terms of participation and results has been excellent.

Pupils from Year 9 upwards can also take part in outdoor education such as hill walking, climbing, canoeing and other activities which form part of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.

There are opportunities to go on sporting trips regularly throughout the year, with Lower School pupils benefitting from watching live international Rugby Union, Hockey and Netball games. Highlight of the sporting calendar is now the Senior Sports tour which includes our Hockey, Netball, Basketball and Rugby squads and our sporting presentations which celebrate collective and individual achievement.
